Utah

Welcome to Utah!

After exploring the southern side in 2019, I'm excited to see what the north part of the state is like. It's this varying combo of mountains and dessert going back and forth as I travel along US-40.

Keeping me company on the road, I'm flipping between 2 audiobooks:

You can guess what it's all about... building a business with a team. As my faith grows, I'm more and more leery of secular books. Are they leading me in the right direction? If God isn't at the forefront then in the end it doesn't matter how big you build. (See Psalm 127.) It does have some good points about sticking to what you’re good at though and you can’t go it alone. The traditional use of building a team of employees doesn’t appeal to me. Building a team of collaborators though… now we’re talkin! I have a great list of experts within marketing to turn to for whatever project comes my way.

Now this one is interesting! It's a collection of interviews on the state of the Catholic Church in the US. Some sound pretty bleak. Others are more hopeful. We have a lot of Catholics in name only who do not live the faith. I was this person once. And so I pray that they'll all have a change of heart and start living to actually follow Jesus... before it's too late.

Pulling into Salt Lake City was twisty. I'd have taken pictures, but hands stayed firmly on 10 and 2. 😳

Made it!

Accommodations are awesome. Checkout my Airbnb. If you ever visit SLC, this is the place to stay. Comfortable. Amazingly clean. Great view. And prime location.

The cathedral is the reason I chose this spot.

I took a walk each morning before the heat. Java Jo’s is the highest rated caffeine fix within walking distance. It’s a simple corner drive through with a walk up window as well. The line of cars 2 rows deep tells you what folks think about the place.

And then I met a celebrity!

A few years ago my sisters got into sourdough after following an Instagram celeb, The Food Nanny. She has a storefront here in SLC.

I did 3 FaceTime tours of the store with each sister. AND they got to meet her! During the first FaceTime call, I awkwardly ask my sis, “ummm is this her?”

Lizi is a kind and bubbly soul who took time to say hi to some of her biggest fans (my sisters). One sister even ended up on her stories!

From socialCeleb to a social media expert…

While I’m town I got to reconnect with a fellow marketer. Julia specializes in helping businesses with their social media.

Remind me when I get home: sugar snap peas.

I’ve been on the road 5 days and have only eaten out once. (I packed a cooler of food.) While the Airbnb is lovely, I’m ready to be around people for a bit. I can usually get a ton of work done from a coffee shop or brewery because I have to stay seated. I found a cute cocktail bar called Franklin Ave. they have a real wine list, fancy food and WiFi. So I pull up a seat at the bar with my laptop.

Four hours later I have so much done! And my laptop is running on fumes. There’s not a plug-in around so it’s time to close up shop.

Back to the Sugar snap peas… it’s this bowl layered with:

  • Coconut cream (whipped after it separates in the can)

  • Peas

  • Chile oil

  • Mint

  • Thai basil

  • Fresno chiles

  • Cashews

Can I recreate this? I hope so!

Last adventure in SLC is a “hike” up the canyon. My host said it’s very safe so I take off around 6am in good faith. There were already quite a few people on the trails and I can see why.

After seeing so many people running I gave it another shot.

Nope. Still not a fan. 😂

I haven’t been very observant here since I just noticed toward the end of my last outing that the Capitol building was just a few blocks away the whole time. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Oops.

Next time.
